Company History

Family Owned Since 1936!

History Overview

Glenn B. Dorning, Inc was founded on North Euclid Ave in 1936 by Glenn Bernard Dorning. The company began selling and servicing various brands of farm equipment before moving to its present location on East Holt Blvd in 1947. Over the years we have been known for our dependable parts department, quick service, and knowledgeable sales staff. We became a Massey Ferguson dealer in 1948, a Kubota dealer in 1990, and added Wacker Neuson to our list of inventory in 2017. We also took on the Terex brand when Massey Ferguson Industrial was bought out in 2001. Today, we continue to sell equipment from Kubota, Terex, and Wacker Neuson, while still carrying parts for and servicing anything that come through our doors. We are now a third generation, family owned business who carries on the legacy of our past owners.

Glenn B. Dorning (1908 – 1994)

Glenn Bernard Dorning was born in Selden, Kansas in 1908 and moved to Ontario, California in 1921. He learned about tractors in his youth working for his grandfather’s Fordson Tractor dealership on San Antonio Ave and Holt Blvd. After graduating from Chaffey College, Glenn decided to use his knowledge of the industry to open his own shop focused on servicing and selling farm machinery. With the help of his wife Maxine, Glenn B Dorning, Inc opened its doors on the 300 block of North Euclid Ave in 1936. The company became a subdealer for various lines of equipment and began to build a reputation for capability and in-depth product knowledge.

In 1941, in the wake of Pearl Harbor, Glenn joined the United States Air Force as a pilot instructor. Upon his return from service, he shifted his focus back to his business. In 1947, Glenn B Dorning, Inc was moved to its present location on East Holt Blvd where Glenn built a shop and sales floor, and eventually added a warehouse. The Massey Ferguson line was added in 1948, propelling the business to its future success.

Glenn B Dorning retired in 1971, selling his company to his Nephew, Francis “Sonny” Rowlands, keeping the business in the family.

Francis “Sonny” Rowlands (1925 – 2016)

Francis “Sonny” Rowlands was born in San Antonio Community Hospital in 1925. He was a lifelong Ontario resident that went to Chaffey High School. Before graduating, Sonny decided to leave Chaffey and join the United States Navy in 1942. While in the Navy, Sonny was a projectile gunner and baker on the USS Dunlap.

In 1946, Sonny returned home and married his sweetheart, Frances “Franny” Rowlands. Two days later he started working as a truck driver for his uncle’s company, Glenn B. Dorning, Inc. After learning the industry, Sonny jumped at the opportunity to buy the company from his uncle when he retired.

Under Sonny’s command, Glenn B Dorning, Inc continued to provide customers with the dependability and product knowledge that they had come to expect.
